The farmhouse

Lizolagoiena is a farmhouse located in the Gipuzkoan town of Asteasu, in the Tolosaldea region, in the heart of Gipuzkoa, a town that is the centre of Basque culture and language.
Asteasu is a town of about 1,500 inhabitants, located in a beautiful natural setting, surrounded by mountains – the entire Hernio valley – and other small villages.
History
The Lizolagoiena farmhouse functioned as a cider press in the 16th century. It was surrounded by apple trees, as was the case in many other farmhouses of the time, and cider was produced there.
Here you can see the columns that made up the structure of the cider press and the barrels used to store the cider. We have placed an anchor in the garden, as a reminder, because thanks to these farmhouses, Basque whalers sailed well supplied with cider.
This agrotourism is a family project, we started the rehabilitation work in 2019 and we will open it in 2022. During the reconstruction works we recycled the furniture, the dishes, the old tools and recovered what could be reused.

Environment
The Lizolagoiena farmhouse is located on the north-eastern slope of Mount Hernio, in a landscape surrounded by forests and high meadows. The surroundings are rich in landscape, nature and culture. On the one hand, you can take beautiful walks in the mountains and do activities to discover nature; on the other hand, you can discover the organic farming area of the Lizolateine farmhouse, very close to the farmhouse; and finally, you also have the opportunity to discover first-hand the great tourist, museum, cultural and gastronomic offer of the surrounding villages.
Lizolagoiena is sustainable tourism to immerse yourself in the culture and landscape of the Basque farmhouses.
The centre of the village is a 20-minute walk away, or it is possible to use public transport from the nearby town of Billabona to Donosti, a 30-minute journey. Zarautz is a 30-minute drive away.

What to do
We want to promote a sustainable tourism model, a responsible tourism. Promote knowledge of the culture of Euskal Herria, provide the opportunity to discover the area, and expand the opportunity to enjoy our gastronomy first hand. Contact us if you want to get organic vegetables from the garden.
We do our bit, respecting the life that surrounds us, and caring for and protecting the natural habitat. We manage waste responsibly, promoting selective collection. Let’s reduce our impact on the environment.
The natural habitat of this area is very rich. It is common to see red kites flying in the large meadows, dancing in the wind. We also have a playful neighbour, the Kattagorria (squirrel), and the Buxtangorria (red tail) likes to hang out on the porch of the farmhouse every year. The owl hunts in the air and occasionally you can also hear a woodpecker. Our black friend, the salamander, likes the surrounding wetlands, and there are also some that hide there…
We also have domestic animals, mares, cows, sheep, Rita, Xius, Lua, Piku, Moxokita, Penelope, who is more beautiful than any.
